#15 – April 1st 2024

With apologies for the long gap and the caveat that there may well be more – I got another round of Covid which has knocked me down for about two months now and I’m still not out the woods – let’s see what’s in my videogames bag all the same.

Really enjoyed this interview with Clive Townsend about Saboteur. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but I still adore how on the nail Saboteur gets that VHS Ninja vibe, but as videogame. (Eurogamer)

Completely in love with Downpour and not just for all the folk using it to make “Where’s my cat?” games although yeah, mainly that. Let me find your cat. (Website)

Here’s Terry Cavanagh’s brilliant Proper Cup Of Tea made with Downpour. (Link)

Where Is John is another recent fave. Dead quick to play and just a lovely thing. (Website)

One more! Are You Awake? Spoops warning. (Website)

Time for a run through some stalwarts. Here’s a couple to keep you going.

2 player local Pong with a “choose your fighter” thing going on. Includes lasers. (Itch)

It’s a nice Pac-Man! As an aside, I went through a really, really bad Pac-Man phase around this time last year and whilst I don’t regret a minute of it, I’m still haunted by so much wakawakawaka in my dreams. (Itch)

A made in a day Asteroids. Pew pew. (Itch)

Work in progress vector take on Missile Command, Missile Commander. I think you all know how I feel about vector styled remakes by now but just in case, let me express it in a word and that word is “yiss” (Itch)

There’s a sweet glow to Centipede 3000 and, well, see previous “yiss” to that. (Itch)

Let’s move along a bit. A HTML5 (remember when that was the future of all videogames?) remake of the Amiga spacey-game, Mayhem. (Itch)

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story has been keeping me going (to the surprise of no-one). Digital Eclipse with a solid 2 out of 2 for their Gold Masters range so far. Grand stuff. (Website)

A sweet looking port of the arcade game Lock ‘n’ Chase, for the C64. Lovely job of keeping an arcade-y look here. (Itch)

Smack some pixels in their pixelly face! A remake of Atari 2600 Boxing. (Itch)

Having only played Abu Simbel: Profanation from the series, looking forward to putting some time into this remake of its forerunner, Babaliba. It’s new to me! (Itch)

And a quick PICO-8 game to wrap up on this week. Snake, but it’s Breakout but Breakout is Snake in Snakeout. Bounce the snake off a paddle to chomp apples and well, you all know how this works by now. (Itch)

Until next time, stay safe and don’t have nightmares.

This week’s digest comes with super thanks to all our Patreon supporters but especially the overly kind BigNobody and Mithaldu. Thanks so much, folk.
